The article outlines the cutting-edge technology that directly deciphers methylated DNA. Focused on cytosine base methylation, EpiDirect® distinguishes between closely resembling unmethylated and methylated cytosines, eliminating the need for laborious pre-treatment.
Traditionally, differentiation of these states required time-consuming bisulfite conversion, leading to irreversible changes in the DNA. The platform is a breakthrough as it eliminates this step, shortening analysis time to a mere 2 hours, a significant enhancement from the current 2-day process.
